Galaxy Express 999 was a science-fiction anime series that originally premiered in 1978. It was set in a distant future where humanity could attain immortality by purchasing mechanical bodies, a costly process. The story followed a young boy named Tetsurou Hoshino, who, after witnessing his mother's murder by a machine-man hybrid, was rescued by the mysterious Maetel. She offered him a pass to travel aboard the Galaxy Express 999, a spaceship train that journeyed across the universe, with the promise that he could obtain a mechanical body for free at the journey's end. Throughout his travels, Tetsurou visited many planets and faced numerous adventures in pursuit of his dream.
The series featured voice actors Masako Nozawa as Tetsurou Hoshino and Masako Ikeda as Maetel. It is a classic anime that aired in the late 1970s and early 1980s, known for its engaging story and imaginative universe. The show had a runtime of approximately 30 minutes per episode.
