Saturday Night Live is an American late-night television sketch comedy, political satire, and variety show. The show premiere was hosted by George Carlin on NBC on October 11, 1975, under the original title NBC's Saturday Night. Lorne Michaels is the show's showrunner and Dick Ebersol ran the show until 1985, when Michaels returned as showrunner. SNL has aired 945 episodes since its debut, and began its 48th season on October 1, 2022.
