Worzel Gummidge was a family-oriented drama and comedy series that originally premiered in 1979. It was based on children's books by Barbara Euphan Todd and followed the adventures of Worzel Gummidge, a scarecrow who could walk and talk, along with his love Aunt Sally, a wooden fairground doll. The show depicted their interactions with children John and Susan, who knew their secret. Worzel was created by the Crowman, who equipped him with various heads for different tasks, such as thinking, bravery, counting, and cleverness.
The cast included Geoffrey Bayldon as The Crowman, Jon Pertwee as Worzel Gummidge, and Una Stubbs as Aunt Sally. The series was made by Southern Television for ITV and had a runtime of approximately 25 minutes per episode. It remains a nostalgic part of British children's television history, with no new episodes planned since its conclusion in 1989.
