The show was set in a New York City hotel called The Bartley House, where Katy O'Connor, played by Ann Sothern, was the assistant manager. The series depicted her daily interactions with eccentric hotel guests, her secretary and roommate Olive Smith, and her boss Jason McCauley, who was often bullied by his wife Flora. The comedy focused on the humorous situations arising from hotel life and the characters' relationships.
