Popular was a teen comedy series that premiered on September 29, 1999, and was set in a high school environment. The series focused on the contrasting lives of cheerleader Brooke McQueen and academically inclined journalist Sam McPherson, who were forced to coexist when their families became engaged. The storyline explored the social hierarchies and friendships among the students, including characters like the socially awkward Harrison, the popular quarterback Josh, and the cheerleaders Nicole and Mary.
