About Blackbird: Lena Horne and America

Blackbird: Lena Horne and America's return is unconfirmed. It is being developed for Paramount+ with Showtime, but has not yet begun filming or airing. As such, there are no scheduled episodes or release plans available at this time.

Blackbird: Lena Horne and America was conceived as a limited drama series exploring the life of Lena Horne, an iconic entertainer and activist. The show was set to span 60 years of her remarkable journey, from her early days dancing at the Cotton Club to her involvement in major historical events like World War II, the civil rights movement, and her Broadway comeback. It aimed to depict her relationships with legendary figures such as Paul Robeson, Billie Holiday, and Orson Welles, highlighting her navigation of stardom amidst Jim Crow laws and racial discrimination.

The series was planned to be produced by CBS Television Studios and Secret Hideout. It was inspired by Horne’s favorite poem, Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird, and intended to tell her story within a historical context, emphasizing her contributions to American culture and civil rights.
