Back Street Girls was a comedy anime that aired in 2018. It was based on a manga and followed the story of three yakuza members who, after a failed job, were given the choice to either commit suicide or undergo sex reassignment surgery in Thailand to become idols. They chose the latter, and after a year of training, they debuted as popular idols, despite their personal dismay. The show depicted their struggles and the comedic situations that arose from their unexpected new careers.

The cast included Yuka Nukui as Airi Yamamoto, Daisuke Ono as Kentaro Yamamoto, and Kaori Maeda as Mari Tachibana, among others.
