The Office
originally aired on NBC
The Office aired on NBC from March 24, 2005, to May 16, 2013, spanning a total of nine seasons. Based on the 2001–2003 BBC series of the same name created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, it was adapted for American television by Greg Daniels, a veteran writer for Saturday Night Live, King of the Hill, and The Simpsons. The series was filmed in a single-camera setup without a studio audience or a laugh track to simulate the look of an actual documentary. The Office was met with mixed reviews during its short first season, but the following seasons received significant acclaim from television critics. Rolling Stone named The Office one of the 100 greatest television shows of all time.
The show is a mockumentary based in a branch of a large paper company called Wernham Hogg in the Slough Trading Estate in Berkshire. The office is headed by general manager David Brent (Gervais), aided by his team leader and Assistant to the Regional Manager Gareth Keenan.
