The show is loosely based on Laura Ingalls Wilder's best-selling series of Little House books. The Ingalls family live on a farm on Plum Creek near Walnut Grove, Minnesota, in the 1870s–90s. Melissa Gilbert has the most appearances of the series, a total of 190 of the 204 episodes.
