War Above the Trenches was a two-part documentary series that aired in 2018. It depicted the Royal Flying Corps' intense struggle for air superiority during World War I, a conflict often associated with trench warfare on the Western Front. The series was based on the book Bloody April by historian Peter Hart and used reconstructions, archive footage, and diaries from veterans to provide an immersive look into aerial combat, reconnaissance, and bombing missions from the perspectives of men in the air and soldiers on the ground.
