About The Presidents
The Presidents ended on March 8, 2005, on History. The series was a comprehensive eight-part documentary that explored the personal lives and legacies of the U.S. Presidents from George Washington to George W. Bush.
The show was a detailed survey of all 43 Commanders in Chief who have led America throughout its history. It included vivid snapshots of their personalities, weaknesses, and achievements, providing insights into their administrations. Based on the book To the Best of My Ability, edited by Pulitzer Prize-winner James McPherson, the series featured rare photographs, footage, and commentary from journalists, scholars, and politicians such as Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley, Wesley Clark, Bob Dole, and Jimmy Carter. It aimed to present the presidency as a human story set within the changing contexts of each era.
The series starred Edward Herrmann as the narrator.
