The series was a drama set during the Second World War, focusing on the elite Pathfinder squadrons of RAF Bomber Command. It depicted their dangerous missions, where volunteers would fly ahead of bombing raids over occupied Europe and Nazi Germany to light up targets with flares and incendiaries.

The cast included Jack Watling as Doc Saxon and Robert Urquhart as Wing Commander MacPhearson.
