The show was a fantasy drama that aired from December 16, 2015, to April 1, 2020. It was based on Lev Grossman's best-selling books and followed a group of young adults at Brakebills University, a secret institution where they learned to harness magic. The series depicted their journey through an unorthodox education in spellcasting and their discovery that a magical world they had read about as children was real and dangerous for humanity.

The cast included actors such as Jason Ralph as Quentin Coldwater, Olivia Taylor Dudley as Alice Quinn, and Hale Appleman as Eliot Waugh. The series received a rating of 7.9 on TVMaze and each episode had a runtime of approximately 60 minutes.
