The series was a drama, mystery, and history show that aired from January 17, 1979, to March 4, 1982. It was set in the Victorian era and followed a Scottish policeman who moved to Toronto to care for his orphaned niece. The protagonist became Canada's first real detective, based on the true story of John Wilson Murray, who was appointed to Ontario's Department of Justice in 1875. The show depicted his investigations and adventures as he navigated the complexities of crime and society during that period.
The cast included Douglas Campbell as Inspector Alistair Cameron, Sandy Webster as Dr. Archie Chisholm, Kay Hawtrey as Mrs. Lutz, James Duggan as Sgt. Striker, Tracy Brett as Prudence Wetherall, and Roy Wordsworth as Willie. The episodes had a runtime of 60 minutes each.
