The show was based on Agatha Christie's 1936 novel and followed the famous detective Hercule Poirot as he investigated a series of murders committed by a serial killer known only as ABC. The killer left the ABC Railway Guide at each crime scene, which Poirot used to track down the perpetrator.
The series starred John Malkovich as Hercule Poirot, with Rupert Grint playing Inspector Crome. Other main cast members included Andrew Buchan as Franklin Clarke, Eamon Farren as Alexander Bonaparte Cust, Tara Fitzgerald as Lady Hermione Clarke, Bronwyn James as Megan Barnard, Freya Mavor as Thora Grey, and Anya Chalotra as Lily Marbury.
