About POWW: Powerful Women of Wrestling

POWW: Powerful Women of Wrestling ended in 1990. The promotion was based out of Indianapolis, Indiana, and was founded by David McLane, who previously created Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW). After leaving GLOW due to pay disputes, McLane established POWW, which focused more on actual wrestling compared to GLOW's mix of comedy, skits, and variety shows. POWW was aligned with the World Wrestling Association in Indianapolis, and their titles were sometimes referred to as the WWA Women's Championship and WWA Women's Tag Team Championship. During 1989, the promotion was briefly associated with the American Wrestling Association, and many of their wrestlers appeared in the 1989 film American Angels - Baptism of Blood. The promotion closed in 1990, ending its brief run as a women's professional wrestling organization. Its history is marked by a focus on athletic competition and a roster of notable wrestlers from that era.

POWW was a women's professional wrestling promotion that was active in the late 1980s. It was created by David McLane after his departure from GLOW, aiming to showcase more serious wrestling talent among women. The promotion featured wrestlers such as Trudy Adams, Andrea Baird, Laura Fisher, Dee Booher, Tiffany Crystal, Michelle Damon, Candi Devine, and Envy. The wrestlers performed in matches that highlighted athleticism and wrestling skills, contrasting with the entertainment-focused approach of some other promotions at the time. Although it was short-lived, POWW contributed to the history of women's wrestling during its existence in the late 1980s.
