This British television serial was adapted from Charles Dickens's novel Our Mutual Friend and first aired in 1998. It was a drama series that depicted the story of a wealthy misanthrope who made his fortune from London's rubbish and died estranged from everyone except his loyal employees. The plot centered around his will, which left his estate to his son John Harmon, who was expected to return from abroad to claim it on the condition of marrying a woman he had never met, Miss Bella Wilfer. The series explored themes of wealth, social class, and human relationships.
The show featured a cast including Paul McGann as Eugene Wrayburn, Steven Mackintosh as John Harmon, Keeley Hawes as Lizzie Hexam, and Timothy Spall as Mr. Venus. It consisted of one season with four episodes, each approximately 90 minutes long. The series was broadcast over a span of a few weeks in March 1998 and has not been renewed or continued since its original airing.
