The show followed the story of several boys and girls who grew up together along the canal, then parted ways to pursue their own paths and reunited years later. Through their experiences with competition and life's pressures, they rediscovered hope for a new beginning. The series also depicted the changing history of the Chinese Grand Canal, illustrating its cultural significance over more than a century.

The cast included Ou Hao as Xie Wanghe, Bai Lu as Xia Fenghua, Zhai Zi Lu as Shao Xingchi, and Gao Zhi Ting as Zhou Haikuo. Each episode had a runtime of approximately 46 minutes.
