It was set in the 1880s and followed the story of Ben Calhoun, who won the Buffalo Pass, Scalplock, and Defiance Line railroad in a poker game. The series depicted his efforts to complete the railroad while facing challenges from Native Americans, bankers, and other villains typical of the genre.
