The series explored the family's experiences, including the lives of their children—Simon, James, Robert, and Alice—and the challenges they faced despite their privileged circumstances.
The cast included Helen McCrory as Mary Freeman, Robert Pugh as Charles Freeman, Shaun Dingwall as James Freeman, Lorraine Ashbourne as Edna, and Garry Cooper as Stanley.
