Hikari no Ou was an anime series set in a post-apocalyptic world following humanity's last war. The story was a fantasy adventure that took place in a world shrouded by a black forest, where people had become infected with a pathogen that caused them to burst into flames in the presence of natural fire. The only safe way to obtain fire was by hunting black beasts known as Flame Spirits deep within the forest. The plot centered around Touko, a girl raised in a village, and Koushi, a former student from the capital, whose unexpected encounter was said to change the fate of the world.

The show had a runtime of 30 minutes per episode and was released over two seasons, each consisting of 10 episodes.
