Set six years before the events of Barakamon, Handa-kun was a comedy anime series that premiered in 2016. It followed the life of Seishuu Handa as a high school student, portraying his experiences as a calligraphy genius who was admired by his peers. The series depicted Handa’s misunderstandings, believing that the attention he received was bullying, leading to humorous situations as he tried to live a quiet life while others challenged his status as the school idol.
The cast included Nobunaga Shimazaki as Handa Sei, Yûya Hirose as Junichi Aizawa, Tetsuya Kakihara as Reo Nikaidou, Yusuke Shirai as Kei Hanada, Makoto Furukawa as Kotaro Higashino, and Kazuyuki Okitsu as Takao Kawafuji.
