The series took viewers on journeys through the Scottish Highlands, the coastlines and woodlands of Wales, and the historic railways of England, highlighting the history and romance of train travel in the UK.

The series was a documentary-style program featuring Hugh Bonneville as the narrator. Each episode focused on a different scenic railway, including the Jacobite Steam Train, the Ffestiniog Railway, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and the West Somerset Railway.
