Evergreen was a drama series that aired in 1985, based on the novel by Belva Plain. It depicted the story of Anna, a Polish-Jewish immigrant who arrived in New York's Lower East Side in 1909. Over the course of the series, the narrative covered her life from humble beginnings as a seamstress to her marriage with Joseph Friedman, a man who became a wealthy Westchester contractor. The series also explored her complex feelings for Paul Lerner, a member of a prosperous Fifth Avenue family, and the dramatic events surrounding her family, including the birth of her daughter and the secrets that shaped their lives. The story spanned several decades, culminating in the formation of Israel and the journey of Anna’s grandson, Eric, to find himself.
