El corazón del océano was a drama and adventure series set in 1550 that told the story of Alonso, a young Galician man who had to flee his village after accidentally killing Count Raña's youngest son. To escape danger, he traveled to Seville to join an expedition to the New World, carrying a letter of recommendation for Juan de Sanabria, the Adelantado of the Río de la Plata, who was preparing an expedition to Asunción.

Its episodes had a runtime of approximately 90 minutes each, and it was part of a historical drama genre that depicted early exploration and adventure in the 16th century.
