The show highlighted Fossey's impact on conservation efforts and her influence on the survival of the Pablo troop of gorillas, which endured poaching and habitat loss.

The documentary featured rare archival footage of Fossey in her daily routines and included interviews with her colleagues and friends, such as research assistant Wayne McGuire and Sir David Attenborough. Sigourney Weaver provided narration throughout the series.
