About Crusader Rabbit
Crusader Rabbit ended its original run in 1950 on syndication. The series was broadcast from August 1, 1950, and continued to be shown on various local stations for many years afterward.
Crusader Rabbit was the first animated series produced specifically for television. It was a family-friendly comedy that premiered in 1950 and was created by animator Alex Anderson and producer Jay Ward. The show followed the adventures of Crusader Rabbit and his companion, Ragland T. Tiger, as they faced various humorous challenges. It was notable for pioneering the animated TV format at a time when most animation was limited to theatrical shorts.
The cast included GeGe Pearson and Lucille Bliss as Crusader Rabbit, Vern Louden as Ragland T. Tiger, Roy Whaley as the narrator, and Russ Coughlan as Dudley Nightshade. The series did not have an official rating and was approximately 60 minutes per episode. Although it ended in 1950 after a single season of 10 episodes, Crusader Rabbit remains a significant part of television history as the first animated series made for TV.
