Border Town Prodigal was a drama series that premiered in 2016. It told the story of Bai Tian Yu, the leader of the Divine Knife sect, who was mysteriously ambushed and killed in the border town Plum Nunnery. Twenty years later, Fu Hong Xue returned from the western regions to investigate his adopted father's death. Meanwhile, Bai Tian Yu's biological son, Ye Kai, also arrived at the border town, uncovering the involvement of Bai Tian Yu's sworn brother, Ma Kong Qun, in the assassination. The series followed their intertwined journeys and the romantic developments involving Ma Fang Ling, Ma Kong Qun’s daughter, who fell for Fu Hong Xue, and Ye Kai, who also developed feelings for her.

The cast included Viann Zhang as Ma Fang Ling.
