Bluegrass Underground ended on June 6, 2021, on PBS. The series was a musical adventure that showcased authentic American music in a unique subterranean setting.
The show was filmed in the Volcano Room, a cavern 333 feet below McMinnville, Tennessee, inside Cumberland Caverns. It featured a diverse range of genres including Bluegrass, Americana, Country, Soul, Blues, Rock N Roll, Gospel, and Folk. Each episode highlighted performances by various artists, celebrating the rich musical heritage of the United States with a focus on natural acoustics and visual artistry.
The show had a runtime of about 30 minutes per episode and ran for ten seasons, beginning in 2011 and concluding in 2021.
