The series depicted her navigating her own personal and relationship issues while advising others. Her husband Laurence, an unreliable psychiatrist, often added to her challenges, and her widowed mother Bea was known for interfering in her life. The show also featured her demanding boss, Diana.
The cast included Maureen Lipman as Jane Lucas, Simon Williams as Laurence Lucas, and Maria Charles as Bea Fisher.
