In this story set during the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars, a mysterious Hungarian nobleman, Count Vavel, rescues Marie—the heir to the executed French royal couple—from the ruthless Republican agents hunting her, and hides her in the "Castle of the Nameless," a deserted fortress by Lake Fertő.
