Mindy Kaling was born Vera Mindy Chokalingam in 1979, the same year she was born. She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and raised in India. Kaling starred as Kelly Kapoor in the NBC sitcom The Office. She gained wider attention for creating, producing and starring as Dr. Mindy Lahiri in the Fox/Hulu semi-biographical sitcom The Mindy Project (2012–2017), that was inspired by some events in her early life. Her film career includes voice roles in Despicable Me, Wreck-It Ralph, Inside Out and Ocean's 8.
