Henry Louis Gehrig was born June 19, 1903, in New York City, New York. He played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees (1923–1939) Gehrig is widely regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. He set several major-league records, including most career grand slams and most consecutive games played. Gehrig died in 1941 at age 36 of ALS, two years after retiring from baseball.
