The Gilgo Beach serial killings were part of a series of murders spanning from the early 1990s until 2011. Rex Heuermann, a Manhattan architect and resident of Massapequa Park, Long Island, is accused of murdering seven women. The remains of four victims designated "The Gilgo Four" were found within a quarter of a mile of each other in December 2010. Six more sets of remains were found in March and April 2011 in Suffolk and Nassau counties. In July 2023, a 59-year-old Nassau County resident, was arrested in Midtown Manhattan and charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
