The Late Show is the first late-night talk show hosted by Arsenio Hall. It debuted on October 9, 1986, under the title "The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers" The show was a direct attempt at competing against NBC's The Tonight Show, where Rivers had been Carson's guest host since 1983.
