The Boondocks is an adult animated television series created by Aaron McGruder. It is based on his manga-influenced comic strip of the same name. The series premiered on November 6, 2005, and ended on June 23, 2014, with a total of 55 episodes produced over the course of the show's four seasons. The last season was produced without any involvement from McGruder, reportedly because "a mutually agreeable production schedule could not be determined"
