The neo-Western crime drama franchise is based on the television series Breaking Bad, its prequel/sequel series Better Call Saul, and its sequel film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. The fictional universe is sometimes informally referred to as the "Gilliverse" The two series and the film are set in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Better Call Saul follows the transformation of Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk), a former con artist who is trying to become a respectable lawyer, into the personality of the flamboyant criminal lawyer Saul Goodman. The show includes flashforwards to events following or during Breaking Bad at the start of each season's premiere.
