Asterix is a French comic album series about a Gaulish village which, thanks to a magic potion that enhances strength, resists the forces of Julius Caesar's Roman Republic Army in a nonhistorical telling of the time after the Gallic Wars. The series first appeared in the Franco-Belgian comic magazine Pilote on 29 October 1959. 40 volumes have been released; the most recent was penned by new writer Fabcaro and released on 26 October 2023. As of 20 April 2022, 385 million copies of Asterix books had been sold worldwide and translated in 111 languages. The success of the series has led to the adaptation of its books into 15 films: ten animated, and five live action.
